breughelFerenc Hörcher is giving a keynote talk at the joint colloquium of the Humane Philosophy Project and the Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion, Oxford, on the 28th of February (Persons and Community), entitled "The Concept of the Person: A Catholic-Aristotelian, Practical Account".

Other keynote speeches: Michael Inwood: "Self-consciousness and Other Selves in Hegel''; Tenzin Dechen Rochard: "Being Kind to Oneself Means Being Kind to Others: A Buddhist Approach to Rational Self-Interest, Selflessness, and Altruism".

The keynotes are going to be followed by short talks from Nikolas Prassas, Agata Filipowicz, Robbert-Jan Winters and Jacob Burda.

Balazs Gyenis participated as an invited discussant in the conference titled “From Metaphysics to Physics and Back Again”, held in Trinity College of Cambridge University between the 6th-7th of February to honor the scholarly achievements of Prof. Jeremy Butterfield. The details about the program are available here.

Balazs then gave an invited talk in the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method of the London School of Economics titled “Bayes rules all: On the equivalence of various forms of learning in a probabilistic setting” on the 9th of February. Dr. Tamás Demeter has been elected David Hume Fellow for the academic year 2014/15 at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh. During the tenure of his fellowship Dr. Demeter is going to work on Hume's epistemology and metaphysics in the context of eighteenth-century knowledge making practices, and Hume's theory of human nature as a middle range theory between physiological theory and normative ethics.

Gábor Szabó is giving a talk on the 2nd of November at the Department of Philosophy of Harvard University entitled ""On Bell's notion of local causality in local classical and quantum theory"; and he is also giving a talk on the 6th of November at the biennial meeting of the Philosophy of Science Association in Chicago, entitled "Local causality for philosophers".
